Struggling with Your New Year Goals and Resolutions?

So sis, we are way past January’s halfway mark. Are you still ‘#2020Vision’ or are you feeling a little blindsided by how chaotic the year has already been?

The Christmas tree has been packed away (or at least it should be!), that December paycheck is being stretched beyond its limits and the cold weather is unrelenting. Your enthusiasm from a few weeks back has waned, and girl, I definitely understand!

Whether you have set measurable goals for yourself made up your mind to engage in a good habit on a daily, weekly or monthly basis, the truth is there will come a point where you’ll struggle to stick with it.

Here are some handy hints to reset the clock and help those struggling goals and resolutions to become your focal point once more.

Don’t be afraid to start over

Just because you didn’t work out that one time when you promised yourself you’d commit to it at least three times a week, it doesn’t mean you’ve failed. The year is still very young, and it’s a bit unfair on yourself to give up altogether just because of a mistake. Start over and make a recommitment to your goals. Your future self in twelve months time will thank you for it!

Be faithful in the small things

Yes, I believe that external forces and overwhelming life situations can make commitment difficult, but sometimes girl you just need a little discipline. Discipline is something you can practice if you lack it, and you can begin with the smallest tasks such as making your bed every morning or putting a pound into your savings at the end of every day. Being faithful in small things will train your mind to smash your new year goals and resolutions.

Get an accountability partner

Telling your business all over the interwebs may not be the best idea. But sharing some of your plans with a trusted friend or a family member who will hold you to account will force you to make your new year goals and resolutions a priority. Nobody wants to sit there looking stupid when asked to give an account of their progress, so find someone who will push you to be the best you.

Stay prayed up

If you are the praying kind, recommit your plans to God. Ask Him (or Her) to direct your paths and help you to fulfill your new year goals and resolutions. Alternatively, start your days with meditation. Meditation is scientifically known to enhance your self-awareness and lengthen your attention span – attributes that will help you stay motivated!

Write it down

Are you yet to write down your 2020 vision or create your vision board? Don’t worry about it! It’s never too late. But you should do it asap. Make sure you’re reading over it or looking at it as often as possible so you are constantly reminded of the fact that you need to get your butt in gear!

I hope these handy hints help you in your pursuit of progress and joy this year. I wish you a successful 2020! Tell me what you’re doing to stay motivated.
