When I decided to make #wordsareimportant one of the hashtags that would drive the message behind madelinewilsonojo.com , I must definitely have been in the spirit!
I say this because the turning of the year saw people fine-tuning their goals, hopes and dreams into a single, magic-filled word. I have seen everyone from business coaches to social media gurus, and motivational speakers all seek out their word for the year that will keep them going when times get hard.
I am not a fan of bandwagons, but this is definitely one to hop onto. A single word for the year, gives you more room to manoevre than new year resolutions, which once are broken, are broken. But a word to inspire and motivate can push you even after you fall. It allows you to dust yourself off and try again. It can be applied to various apsects of a busy life.
After much consideration, I have decided that my special word will be: persist. With so many new beginnings, it is word which serves me well. Beginnings can be exciting, but when the novelty wears off, what are you left with?
Last year, my best friend and I became husband and wife. It has been a wonderful journey so far and I am grateful to God for this blessing. But marriage is not always smooth – it comes, with its “angles”. When things get bumpy, I will persist.
Again last year I launched my copywriting business and this website & blog. Both business and blogging require a lot of patience whilst trying to build your portfolio, dealing with time wasters and learning the ropes. WordPress has been and still is a nightmare to get used to, and sometimes I create web pages that I later cannot find. But through it, I will persist.
For the third time since graduating from sixth-form, I have turned to education. As someone in my very late twenties, my brain isn’t what it used to be. Studying requires so much more effort. I have so many other responsibilities now, plus my day job just tires the hell out of me. It’s easy to throw in the towel, especially as I have no face-to-face contact with my tutor. But guess what? I will persist.
It has been four years since I rid myself of my car. I was actually relieved to dispose of it. The wretched thing only carried me from one problem to another. But now it’s 2017 and I am ready to get behind the wheel again! Of course with such a big purchase come saving goals. Saving can be difficult, especially with the January sales that trick and tempt. But when I am tempted to purchase another pair of shoes, I will remember duty to save. I will persist!
